The maps, which feature only the 48 contiguous states (sorry, Alaska and Hawaii), are the brainchildren of Jack Grieve, a professor of forensic linguistics at Aston University in England.
In the maps that follow, the red areas indicate regions of the U.S. where a certain word is used frequently, while blue areas indicate states where people are less likely to use that particular word.
