If the Developer tab isn’t visible, click the File tab (the Office button in Excel 2007). Then, choose Options in the left pane or Excel Options, respectively.

Select the "Show Developer Tab in the Ribbon" check box and click "OK." Click "Developer" on the ribbon and click "Design Mode." You can now select the check box and modify it.
