The HEI Distributor has been a standard in the world of stand-alone electronic ingitions since 1974. We give our HEI Distributor a tune-up in the February 2013 issue of Car Craft Magazine.
The HEI distributor is an inductive-discharge-style ignition, but with the points replaced by a solid-state switching device called an electronic ignition-control module.
