Demogorgon is a deity or demon associated with the underworld. Although often ascribed to Greek mythology, the name probably arises from an unknown copyist's misreading of a commentary by a fourth-century scholar, Lactantius Placidus.

Using the gate, the Russians managed to extract several Demogorgons. They paralysed numerous Demodogs and stored them in oxygenized tanks, but seemingly let one grow into a fully-grown Demogorgon. This Demogorgon was sent to a prison facility in the Kamchatka Peninsula, where it fed on prisoners.
