Springs fire, which had spread quickly by windy conditions, at least 45% contained on Saturday, say fire officials
Firefighters gained ground overnight on the Springs Fire near Moreno Valley, which is now 45% contained. Some evacuation orders were lifted Saturday.
As of Saturday morning, 260 personnel were assigned to the Springs Fire, including the deployment of two helicopters and 36 fire engines. Including Cal Fire, assisting crews include city fire departments from Hemet, Riverside, Palm Springs, Idyllwild and Corona, as well as Pechanga and Morongo.
The brush fire started on Gilman Springs Road amid Friday's windy conditions, which included a Wind Advisory issued by the National Weather Service that was extended to 3 p.m. Saturday. Two air tanks were flying over the fire while 23 engines and 105 firefighters were deployed. Two hand crews were also on site.
