1976: The witches of Pendle Hill. Possibly the most famous place for witches in the UK is Pendle Hill in Lancashire. In 1976 a BBC documentary looked at the events of 1612 when a number of people from the area were convicted and hanged for witchcraft. The film illustrated how the events of the past have shaped Pendle’s identity and looked at how some of the current generation of young people from the area celebrate Halloween.
